Making your own Tyrolean dumplings is easy as cake
Looking to create a delightful batch of bread dumplings? Here's a simple recipe:
Ingredients:
- 500g bread cubes
- 200g flavorful fatty bacon (cut into small cubes, approximately 3 by 3 millimeters)
- 1 onion
- Approximately 750ml milk
- 2 eggs and 50g flour
Instructions:
1. Sauté diced onions in a bit of oil until translucent. Add bacon cubes until the fat is released, and it becomes slightly crispy. The onions should also have a light brown hue by this point.
2. Remove from heat and warm a good amount of milk in the pan with the residual heat. Crack the eggs into the milk-bacon-onion mixture, whisking them together with a fork.
3. Pour the milk-bacon-onion-egg mixture over the bread dumpling-flour mix and combine. This is an excellent time to add fresh herbs like parsley or chives.
4. Cover the mixture with a kitchen towel and let it sit for about 20 minutes. If the mixture feels too firm after this waiting period, simply add a bit more milk and mix again.
5. Form a test dumpling and let it simmer in boiling salted water. Depending on the size of the dumplings, the cooking time may vary, but generally, 15 to 25 minutes is sufficient.
6. If the dumpling falls apart in the water, don't worry. Just sprinkle a bit more flour over the mixture, and they will hold together. Enjoy your delicious homemade bread dumplings!
